Inlays and onlays are like fillings that are used to restore or protect the chewing surfaces of your back teeth. They can be made from either porcelain or plastic resin. An inlay fits within the cusps (bumps) on the chewing surface of your tooth. An onlay is larger than an inlay, and replaces one or more decayed (bumps).
The procedure involves removing any decayed parts of the tooth or old fillings and taking an impression of the cavity, so that a custom fitted inlay or onlay can be made. You’ll need two visits to complete this treatment.
